Why Samburu Children?
The Samburu community in northern Kenya faces numerous challenges that hinder education, particularly for girls. The harsh, arid climate results in frequent droughts and water scarcity, forcing families to move often in search of resources, making consistent school attendance difficult. Additionally, cultural practices like early marriages and female genital mutilation (FGM) further disrupt girls’ education, forcing many to drop out.
Economic hardships and the high value placed on livestock mean that many families can’t afford school fees or supplies. These challenges are compounded by the climate, making education even less accessible.
