About the program

In the vast, beautiful lands of Samburu, a mother may walk for hours under the scorching sun just to seek care for her child. A preventable illness can become life-threatening—not because treatment does not exist, but because it is too far away. Here, Community Health Promoters (CHPs) are more than health workers. They are hope in human form—walking from home to home, carrying knowledge, compassion, and lifesaving support. We invite you to stand beside them. To listen. To serve. To care. To become a Community Health Champion Join CHPs on household visits, where every door opened is a story, a struggle, and a chance to make a difference. Turn Knowledge Into Power - Teach families how to protect their health—simple practices that can mean the difference between sickness and survival. - Help identify early signs of illness and support disease surveillance efforts that protect entire communities. - Provide basic first aid and reassurance when it matters most—because sometimes, immediate care saves lives. - Support safe pregnancies, healthy newborns, and thriving children. Be part of a journey that begins with life itself. - Bring encouragement, education, and dignity to those managing long-term conditions. Because in Samburu: - A conversation can prevent a disease - A visit can save a life - A small act of care can restore dignity - And a volunteer can become a lifeline This is not charity. This is solidarity This is humanity in action You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to have all the answers. You simply need: - A heart that cares deeply - A willingness to learn and serve - The courage to step into unfamiliar spaces - The compassion to see people, not problems Whether you are a student, a professional, or someone searching for purpose—you are needed - What You Will Carry Back Home - Stories that will stay with you forever - A deeper understanding of global health realities - Skills in community engagement and public health - And a heart forever changed by the people of Samburu - This Is More Than Volunteering It is waking up to purpose. It is walking where help is needed most. It is choosing to care when it would be easier not to. Answer the Call A mother is waiting. A child needs protection. A community is ready to welcome you. Be the difference. Be the presence. Be a Community Health Champion in Samburu.
